Ductless HVAC Systems Explained: Who They Work For and Why More Homeowners Are Switching

Traditional forced-air systems have been the standard for decades, but they are not the only option. Ductless systems have been gaining traction in residential applications because they solve specific problems that ducted systems simply cannot. If you have ever dealt with a room that is always too hot or too cold, or if you have a space in your home that has no existing ductwork, a ductless system is worth understanding.

How Ductless Systems Work
A ductless system, sometimes called a mini-split, moves heat rather than generating it. In cooling mode, it pulls heat from inside your home and moves it outside. In heating mode, it pulls heat from the outside air, even in cold temperatures, and brings it in. The indoor unit mounts on the wall and delivers conditioned air directly to the space, without any ductwork involved.

Because there are no ducts, there is no duct leakage, no sound traveling through vents between rooms, and no dust being pushed through the house. The system delivers conditioned air exactly where it is installed.

Where Ductless Systems Make the Most Sense
Additions and converted spaces are the most common application. If you have added a sunroom, finished a basement, or converted a garage to living space, running ductwork to that area can be expensive and disruptive. A single ductless unit handles it cleanly. They also work well in older homes where ductwork was never installed, or in situations where one room consistently runs warmer or cooler than the rest of the house.

Multi-zone systems allow for individual room-level control, which means different people can have different comfort levels without affecting the rest of the home. That kind of flexibility is genuinely useful in households where temperature preferences vary.

Find Out If a Ductless System Is Right for Your Home
Ductless systems are not the right answer for every situation, but for the right application, they are highly efficient and genuinely effective. If you have a comfort problem that your existing system cannot solve, we can walk you through whether a ductless solution makes sense.

What a Professional HVAC Service Call Actually Looks Like

5/19/2026

Picture
A lot of homeowners are not sure what to expect when they book a heating or cooling service call. Will the technician be there all day? Will they try to sell you something you do not need? What happens if they find a problem? Knowing what the process looks like takes the uncertainty out of it.

Before the Technician Arrives
When you schedule with Heinrichs Home Comfort, you will receive a one-hour arrival window goal. When the technician is on the way, you will get a text or phone call. No full-day windows, and no wondering if they forgot about you, especially in weather extremes. We respect your schedule and we stay in communication.

Our technicians arrive in fully stocked service vehicles, which means we can address most issues in a single visit without waiting on parts. They wear shoe covers, keep the workspace clean, and treat your home with care.

During the Visit
Once on-site, the technician will assess the system, diagnose any issues, and give you a clear picture of what is going on before any work is done. We provide up-front pricing with no surprise charges. If a repair is needed, you will know the cost before you commit to it. We never bill you for our mistakes or pad the invoice after the fact.

After the work is complete, we provide both a verbal and a digital condition report. Your service history is stored in our cloud-based system, so there is always a clear record of what was done.

After the Visit
Everything we do carries a one-year guarantee. If something is not right, we make it right. The goal every time we leave your home is that you feel confident the job was done correctly and that you know who to call if anything comes up.

Making recycling easier for the recyclers

8/7/2018

The better we prep recyclable materials, the more likely they are to be recycled. Better recycling adds incentive for recycling companies because it helps keep the industry viable.

Like taking a label off of a tin can, we prep old air conditioners for recycling the moment we remove them. Nice work, Matt and Jerry! #greenhvac #newac #energystar #refrigerantrecovery #reducereuserecycle♻️

Go DUCTLESS

Ducts do great things, but sometimes they are unnecessary. Advantages of going ductless can include:
Room-to-room comfort control
Huge increase in efficiency
Quieter outside
Quieter inside (ducts carry sound throughout a home)
Cleaner (ducts carry dust throughout a home)
Space savings
A little more on ductless here, including a video, here.

Nearly silent + superior efficiency + small footprint + flexible installation = happy homeowners and techs #winwin #heatwithyourAC #heatpump #ductless #townofmerton #daikin

Humidifier control, replace water panel setting

3/20/2018

humidifier control setting reset light
The "Change Water Panel" light is merely a timer, it does not know if water panel replacement is needed.
To reset the light:
1. turn knob all the way to the right toward 'Test/Reset'
2. leave the knob there a few seconds and then turn it back to the setting of your choosing.

Proper setting depends on your home.
Low humidity? You could try the '7' setting, but lower if your windows sweat.
Unfortunately, in the winter, ideal humidity level is often unattainable due to the way our homes are built. Not enough air moves across the inside of our windows, so windows get cold and sweat...like a glass of ice water in the summer.

Late winter often brings low indoor humidity.
Slightly warmer days + persistent, dry northern air =
The humidifier can only run when the furnace runs. "Warmer" days call for less furnace operation, which means less humidifier operation, yet the dry air persists.
